Beyond Medical Care: The Human Connection in Home Birth

One particularly moving moment in our work as home birth midwives in Tampa, FL came when a new mother said, “I didn’t expect this, my nurses didn’t hug me last time.” Her words stayed with us, a powerful reminder of how profoundly birth experiences can differ depending on the location, the support team, and the mindset surrounding the journey.

We’ve also witnessed the raw, beautiful emotion of a first-time father dropping to his knees moments after his son was born, overcome with tears of joy and disbelief. These moments are so deeply personal and unrepeatable. They are why we do what we do.

At Earthside Midwifery Care, we are forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of these intimate chapters in a family’s story. Our Tampa midwives are dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized, and safe care, ensuring that every home birth is supported with both professional expertise and genuine human connection rooted in community.

Meet our Team of Midwives and Birth Workers

Sarah Waugh LM, CPM

Sarah Waugh is a Florida licensed midwife and graduate of the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery. Born and raised in a small town in upstate New York, Sarah’s interest in birth began at a young age, caring for her cousins, nieces, and any baby she could nurture. What started as a fascination with newborns evolved into a dream of becoming a labor and delivery nurse, but her path took a transformative turn after moving to Florida and witnessing her sister’s empowering home birth. Inspired by this experience, Sarah pursued her calling to midwifery.

She began her professional journey working as an assistant at a birth center while completing the necessary training to become a licensed midwife. Since then, Sarah has worked with several birth centers and home birth practices across Florida, gaining a wealth of experience in supporting families during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

Her mission is simple: to provide safe, compassionate, and personalized care as families welcome their babies earthside. When she’s not supporting families through their birth journeys, she is an avid cook, experimenting with fresh ingredients from her garden. Whether she’s tending to her plants, caring for her chickens, or gathering fresh eggs, she finds deep joy in nurturing both the land and the people around her. For Sarah, it’s all about the simple pleasures of life, connection, creativity, and the beauty of nature.

Tiffany

Tiffany Miller has a deep passion for all aspects of birth and postpartum care, and has earned a wide range of certifications and specialized trainings including DONA and Indie Birth, Spinning Babies, Pelvic Biomechanics for Birth, rebozo techniques, Birth Emergency Skills Training, Breech Without Borders, and NRP. She attended births for 2 years as a doula, eventually becoming a birth assistant while being trained by a busy home birth midwife in PA. She relocated back to her home state of Florida in Dec 2021 just two weeks after her second son was born.

Tiffany is a mom of 3 and had very different births with each pregnancy. Her son Jase was a hospital induction at 42 weeks, her son Bodhi was a planned home free birth, and her daughter Remy was a planned home birth with her two midwives. While the wisdom imparted from all three experiences has been paramount, her second birth really accelerated her passion for home birth and fueled her drive to become a midwife one day.

Grethel

Grethel Croft is a dedicated wife and homeschooling mother to four wonderful children. Originally from the Dominican Republic, she and her husband moved to Miami in 2007, and recently relocated to the Tampa area. It is here that Grethel continues her birth work, serving as a doula and midwife assistant. Throughout her journey, she has felt a deep, spiritual calling to advocate for women's health, with a particular focus on supporting mothers and families.

With over 11 years of experience, Grethel has received extensive training through respected programs including DONA International, CBW Baby Wearing, Breastfeeding Counseling, Birth Emergency Skills Training, Dr. Stuart Fischbein’s Breech Skills Workshop, NRP, Adult CPR, Spinning Babies, Rebozo Techniques, and Penny Simkin’s Advanced Doula Training, which centers on birthing after trauma.

Her commitment to continuous learning reflects her passion for improving the lives of the families she serves. Bilingual in both Spanish and English, Grethel brings a compassionate, well-rounded approach to her work.

Brittany

Brittany "Bejay" Connolly is a devoted mother of five and an experienced doula, passionate about guiding families through the profound and transformative journey of childbirth and early parenthood. Having supported over 20 families, she brings a deep understanding of the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of birth, shaped by both her professional experience and her own journey as a mother.

Her personal experiences have provided her with invaluable insight into the unique needs of each family, allowing her to offer compassionate and adaptable care. She is committed to providing inclusive, non-judgmental support that honors and respects the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and preferences of every family she serves. Her approach centers on listening, empowering, and ensuring families have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions that align with their values and desires.

Whether offering emotional support, physical comfort, or advocating for families in their birth space, Brittany strives to create an environment where each family feels seen, heard, and respected. She looks forward to fostering an inclusive space where all families can navigate their journey with confidence and peace.
